There’s a vile connection, I’ve noticed, between a certain pair of digital read-outs that are part of my daily routine.
Or perhaps it’s a ‘vital’ connection.

We lose something important, it seems to me, when we learn to stand up and walk and talk.
A pair of new ‘smart phones’ came into our lives this week, and the reviews are decidedly mixed.
I encountered a new word today, ‘mussar’.
Some might say this candle of ours has seen better days.
At the very least, it’s seen a LOT of days…
Sometimes, I wonder: Did Jesus ever just have a bad day? Or simply an especially tiring one?
We haven’t had much to cheer about this season…we fans of the SLU Men’s Basketball Billikens. Just three seasons removed from a conference championship, our guys have become the bottom-feeders in the Atlantic 10.
Adding insult to injury, the university’s athletic department ‘re-designed’ the team’s mascot this season—turning our beloved Billiken into something that was borderline demonic.
Last night though there was redemption of sorts.

There’s nothing ‘ordinary’ about the way in which Ordinary time has begun in our neck of the woods. Two waves of ice and sleet have hit the region in the past 24 hours…with a third expected overnight.
Much of ‘ordinary’ life, as a result, has slowed to a crawl: Events canceled…schools, stores and businesses closed…and streets virtually deserted, save for the passing of the occasional salt truck.
On days like today, there’s really just one disadvantage to a home-based business: Having to send my dear spouse out into the gathering ice-storm to work her shift…while I hunker down all snug and cozy in my basement office, a blazing hearth just a few steps away.
