Today’s find: Plastics & humility

My fancy new dual-body tumbling composter, I notice, is constructed primarily of plastic. This is, in a sense, a vinyl-clad irony: In an attempt to reduce my environmental footprint, my go-to tool has created demand for yet more plastic.

I must have a lot of time on my hands these days, because every once in a while…I find myself wondering why Jesus chose Galilee as headquarters for his public ministry.

Sure, Galilee is a pleasant enough place (as backwaters go). But the world brims with far more beautiful settings. So why not pick one of them as “home base”?

Today’s find: A path forward

Clearly, in his new book Let Us Dream, Pope Francis wasn’t speaking specifically about America’s 2020 political traumas, because the book was written many months before the tawdry events that have recently scarred so many of our cities – including the capital.

No, he wasn’t talking just about us. Even so, he seems well familiar with the lethal disease that currently affects our political discourse.

Gerri and I had a rather unique perspective on what was designed as a visual meditation during our New Year’s Eve retreat at King’s House.

We’d agreed to be “Readers” for the late-evening prayer service – and as such, our behind-the-ambo position meant we saw only the backside of a soul-stirring iconostasis.
