The ‘gimmes’ flowed freely in my foursome at the golf league the other night.
Some might say this candle of ours has seen better days.
At the very least, it’s seen a LOT of days…
I was delighted to have Bartimaeus pop up in the gospel reading at daily Mass the other day. Why? Because I’ve long considered the blind man from Jericho to be one of my best buddies in all of scripture.
It looked a little forlorn, the “theme” banner from our just-completed ACTS retreat, when I got to church this morning.
You just never know when you’re about to come face-to-face with a saint.
It’s the rare friend who can make scripture come alive, right before your eyes.
We’re about to celebrate Christmas, not Thanksgiving – but even so, pilgrims have been very much on my mind today.
The other day, our son Chris had dinner at a farmhouse located just outside of Cascavel, Brazil. His hosts – José and Gesmari Broca – speak Portuguese. Chris knows some Spanish, but English is definitely his go-to language. And even so, he reports, the encounter managed to bless everyone involved.
