‘Fished my wish’ at Mass this morning.
Some background: I was suitably amused the other day to discover @BillDonahy’s ‘Catholic Guide To Ashes’ on the Twittersphere. Tickled enough, in fact, to retweet his graphic – along with a note that I most often experience ‘The Blob’ when the ashes are imposed.
Today’s find: Ashes
Today’s find: ‘Super Bowl L’ – for ‘Lost Interest’
In some circles, I’ve noticed, people tend to give you strange looks when you mention that you’re not planning to watch the Super Bowl.
Today’s find: Raucous Caucus
I’ll admit to being pleasantly surprised when I learned the results of the Iowa Caucuses earlier this week.
Now, please understand: “NONE OF THE ABOVE” would be more likely to get my vote than any of the top finishers in either the Republican or Democrat fields. Still, I took heart in the fact that the pre-caucus polls turned out to be considerably less than accurate.
Today’s find: Both sides now
Saturday morning, I woke up in the Florida Keys. By Saturday afternoon, I was back in St. Louis…visiting with a critically-ill elderly relative in the intensive care unit at a local hospital.
Today’s find: Blizzard Pilgrimage
It’s been fascinating, hearing reports all weekend long from the March for Life caravan—a substantial portion of which got stuck in a massive snow-induced traffic jam somewhere outside of Somerset, Pennsylvania on Friday night.
Today’s find: Unorthodox
What’s worth holding onto?
For example: An article I read recently about liturgical practice suggested – strongly – that holding onto another person’s hand during Mass is one area where I might consider loosening my grip.
Today’s find: The Disease of More
Stan Kroenke managed to get my goat the other day.
Today’s find: Caspar, Balthasar and Melchior
Then what?
It’s an intriguing question, one I’d never really applied to the three wise men before.
2015 in review
The helpful stat monkeys at WordPress.com prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.
Not surprisingly, the most popular posts contained my reflections on the passing of a saint in our midst, Brother Marvin Becker.
And it turns out, my readership increases considerably when subscribers link an item to their Facebook pages. Kinda makes me wonder if it might be time to get my own Facebook account…
Nah.
Most of the other factoids in this report are probably interesting only to me…but just in case you’d like to know more:
Today’s find: Simeon
There’s something notably touching about the story of Simeon, whom we are told was among the first in society to welcome the baby Jesus into the world.
