Today’s find: Bulwark

Now here’s something I hadn’t heard in a LONG time: We sang ‘A Mighty Fortress’ as our recessional song at Mass today. I’ve long appreciated the lyrical imagery of the hymn, made all the more effective by its majestic melody.

Having just returned from one of the world’s most castellated regions, though, I couldn’t help but be struck by the irony of Martin Luther’s words.

Today’s find: Super-sub

Perhaps the feast day simply snuck up on us. Whatever the reason, we experienced a Lectionary malfunction at the early Mass today. The page was set to a Friday in Ordinary time—not to the readings prescribed for the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus –and our lector initially began proclaiming a passage from 2 Timothy, instead of Ezekiel.
