Today’s find: O Key of David

O Key of David and Scepter of the House of Israel; you open and no man closes; you close and no man opens.  Come, and deliver from the chains of prison those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death.

In these last days of Advent, we express our growing anticipation for the coming of the Savior with the O Antiphons — prayers, based on scripture texts, that have been part of the Church’s official evening prayer (or Vespers) for more than a thousand years.

For December 20, the title we use for Jesus is ‘Key of David’…

O Key of David and Scepter of the House of Israel; you open and no man closes; you close and no man opens.  Come, and deliver from the chains of prison those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death.

Let us pause now…to recall that we are in the presence of the Holy & Merciful One.
