Today’s find: Father’s Day

After nearly 33 years of fatherhood, I think I was inclined to believe my children had pretty much already done all they could do to delight their Dad. I stand corrected.

This Father’s Day is shaping up to be one for the record books, coming — as it does — the day after our son’s ordination to the priesthood.

Even for a motormouth like me, it’s hard to put into words just what an extraordinary thing it was to witness that sacramental celebration — and to be part of the even greater sacrament of family, friends and community that surrounded it. I saw the Body of Christ come alive yesterday, as we came together to raise up Chris and four of his fellow Jesuits to receive Holy Orders at St. Francis Xavier (College) Church in St. Louis.

It’s a Father’s Day gift unlike any I can recall receiving over the past three decades — one made all the more profound (I hope) by its sharing. So without further ado, please enjoy a few of the most recent highlights from this proud (and delighted) Papa’s family album…

I mean, really: How could a father (and mother) feel any more blessed?

Let us pause now…to recall that we are in the presence of the Holy One.
