Day dawned a bit disastrously for me and my travel companions.
For many months now, we’ve been planning a trip to a tropical paradise…looking forward especially to a mountain-top view of the sunset over the Pacific.
Well, we’re pulling into port now…just after dawn…and I see that this particular mound of paradise is “socked in” today. Covered in thick clouds.
Doesn’t bode well for a spectacular sunset viewing, does it?
But the day is long, and God is good. So the Holy One may still have surprises in store for us, beyond our imagining.
And the prophet Isaiah reminds me today that I’m not in charge of things anyway…no matter how detailed or long-established my plans might be. Isaiah hears just such a message from the Holy One in the passage we read at Mass:
“My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor or my ways your ways,” says the Lord. “As high as the heavens are above the earth, so high are my ways above your ways…”
So, praise be to God for cloud cover, I suppose.
And bless this day for me and all those I love with Your Presence, Lord! Amen!

Let us remember that we are in the presence of the Holy & Merciful One.
IHS
