Today’s find: Celebrant

Judging by the flood of pilgrims we encountered on the town’s exceedingly narrow streets today, more than a few couples have renewed their wedding vows at Cana in Galilee through the years.

Still, something tells me our blessing was unique.

After all, we actually had our original presider “in the house” — Gerri’s brother, Fr. John Reiker.

It was quite a treat for us to then recreate a wedding photo…nearly 40 years later…with our celebrant there to congratulate us.

John doesn’t look like he’s aged a bit. But we love him anyway…😝

And our hearts are filled with gratitude for him, as well as for all the family members and friends who have enriched our lives through the years.

Yes, we renewed our vows at Cana. But our hearts were singing a prayer that’s more closely linked to the town just down the road: Nazareth.

It’s where Mary first said something that resonates deeply with us, every time we reflect on the gift this sacrament has been in our lives:

…”Our spirits rejoice in God, our savior, for the Holy One has looked with favor on his lowly servants…

The Almighty has done great things for us, and Holy is God’s name…”

Let us remember that we are in the presence of the Holy and Merciful One.
