Today’s find: Immersed

Grandson Francis and I have at least this much in common: We know when we’re surrounded by love.

Francis got up-close-and-personal with the concept at our house yesterday, when he had the chance to be immersed in three generations of doting female affection—doled out by his mother, grandmother and cousin.

Such a lucky, beloved little boy...

Such a lucky, beloved little boy…

I felt a little like a fifth wheel. But not jealous in the least, I noticed.

No: It was something much more like gratitude that welled up in my heart. Gratitude…very much like that which I experienced last Saturday, at our final team meeting in preparation for the Kairos Prison Ministry Weekend that begins today.

Cookies, cookies, everywhere...

Cookies, cookies, everywhere…

It’s always one of my favorite parts of Kairos formation – the day when we team members bring together the homemade cookies we’ve collected from our friends, families, and church communities…and pack them up to be brought into the prison.

Cookies, by the thousands. Tens of thousands, actually. Something on the order of 17,300 cookies in all. Brought in to fill our “bottomless” bowls throughout the Weekend – a visible sign, we say, of the depth of God’s love for each of the inmates who takes part in the Weekend.

Packed, with spiritual blessings...

Packed, with spiritual blessings…

What a blessing, to have the opportunity – literally – to be surrounded by love.

Francis and I are getting the chance to see what Saint Paul promised over 2,000 years ago, to those who choose to live in Christ.

that you, rooted and grounded in love,
may have strength to comprehend with all the holy ones
what is the breadth and length and height and depth,
and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge,
so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Seeing, with all the holy ones, what is the breadth, and depth and length of Christ's love...

Seeing, with all the holy ones, what is the breadth, and depth and length of Christ’s love…

Let us pause now…to recall that we are in the presence of the Holy & Merciful One.
